Malayalam Keyboard for Android

Malayalam Keyboard for Android is a simple and fast Malayalam IME for Android devices. By setting it as the default input method in your Android device, this tool can be used in any application for typing Malayalam. This soft keyboard also includes keys for inputting English characters, numbers, symbols, and more.

Main Features

  1. A unique layout with 31 keys for typing Malayalam. The easy to learn layout arranges Malayalam letter keys in alphabetical order.
  2. Also includes QWERTY and number-symbol keypads.
  3. Malayalam character keys are arranged in alphabetical order.
  4. Suitable for small and large displays with any resolution, in portrait or landscape mode.
  5. Easily input koottaksharam with a single tap using the scrollable koottaksharam list shown above the keyboard.
  6. Word prediction feature. The list should be manually created during typing, and feature number 5 will be disabled if prediction is enabled.
  7. Can also be used on Android versions that do not support proper Malayalam rendering, for sending Unicode Malayalam text by SMS or email.

Usage

  1. Keys in light blue colour, shown in the second last row, are for selection only. For example, the light blue key "അ" is for selecting അ to ഐ, which will be displayed in the third row of the keypad. The light blue "ക" key displays ക to ഞ in the third row, and so on.
  2. Use the "ABC" key to launch the QWERTY keypad.
  3. Use the "123" key to get the number and symbol keys.
  4. To set Malayalam Keyboard for Android as your default keyboard, open Settings > Language and input, then select Malayalam Keyboard for Android as your default keyboard.
  5. To add a new word, with maximum character limit 50, to the prediction database, tap on the specified word, which is the first word in the list displayed above the keypad.
  6. Use the keyboard key at the bottom left to close the keypad, or long press on it to change the default input method.

Notes

Enter characters in Unicode encoding format.

  1. For writing കോ [ko], use this order: ക + ോ. For writing കൈ, use ക + ൈ.
  2. For writing koottaksharam, use chandrakkala for joining characters. For example: ക്ഷ = ക + ് + ഷ.
  3. While using the "ra" symbol, for example പ്ര [pra], use it after typing the letter for correct rendering.
